The Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI) on Wednesday urged the government to limit the implementation of the price ceiling on rice to two to three weeks, warning that prolonging such a regulation could bankrupt small stores unable to cope with mounting losses.

A new complication in Makati-Taguig row 


The P200-billion Makati subway—a joint venture between a private company and the city government—has stalled after Taguig City gained jurisdiction over the area where two of its stations were intended to be built, the project developer said. In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Philippine Infradev Holdings said the subway's current alignment may no longer be feasible because of the border change.

Lepto cases surge in Metro, regions​​


The incidence of leptospirosis, a waterborne disease, rose by 139 percent nationwide in the past month amid heavy rains and flooding caused by typhoons and the southwest monsoon. The Department of Health cited a "continuous increase," with 542 cases reported in the last three to four weeks. Metro Manila and the Ilocos and Calabarzon regions posted the highest numbers, with a combined total of 441.​

Fixing the rot at NIA


To make matters worse, Sen. Raffy Tulfo claimed that the NIA's abandoned and defective irrigation projects had become cash cows of unscrupulous personnel who fattened their bank accounts at the expense of taxpayers, the farmer/beneficiaries of such projects, and the buying public who could have been spared from paying a high price for the country's primary staple ... And there lies the real challenge now for government machinery: to exact accountability beyond just dressing down NIA officials during a Senate hearing.
