Wednesday's CPI report brought welcome news for US consumers, but it also made the Federal Reserve's path forward even murkier.
The report showed that prices in June rose at their slowest annual pace since March 2021, which is good news for consumers who have been struggling with rising costs. However, core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, climbed 4.8% over the last year, which is still well above the Fed's 2% target. This suggests that inflation may be starting to cool, but it is still too high for the Fed's comfort. As a result, the central bank is likely to continue raising interest rates in an effort to bring inflation down to its target. However, the pace of future rate hikes is now uncertain, as the Fed will need to weigh the risks of further tightening against the potential for slowing economic growth. The Fed may decide to continue raising rates at a gradual pace, or it may opt for a more aggressive approach in an effort to bring inflation down more quickly. The decision will likely depend on how the economy performs in the coming months. If the central bank raises rates too quickly, it could lead to a recession. However, if it does not raise rates enough, inflation could continue to spiral out of control. The Fed will need to carefully balance these risks as it makes its decisions in the coming months. | Is a car market crash on the horizon? According to the latest data, car prices have plummeted for the first time in more than two years - and that drop was the biggest one on record. This effectively marks the end of the sky high pandemic pricing period that was riddled with multiple price increases. The fading car prices were more noticeable in the used car sector, but experts said new car prices were also dropping and would plummet even more due to an oversupply issue. What else do we know about the looming car market crash and what it could mean for consumers? (read more) |

Former Vice President Mike Pence defended not conceding the 2020 election shortly after it was evident Joe Biden had won, citing the Trump campaign's litigation challenging the election results. In an interview with CNN host Kaitlan Collins on Tuesday, Pence was questioned why he did not formally concede the race until after Congress confirmed the Electoral College results in January 2021. Members of the Electoral College had already cast their ballots at that point, electing Biden as the 46th President of the United States in mid-December. In the Electoral College, Biden defeated Trump 306 to 232, switching critical battleground states for Democrats in 2020, including Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Here's Pence's reasoning behind his decision. (read more) | |

Dividend investors tend to take a cautious stance. The emphasis is on blue-chip stocks with a solid dividend history. Nevertheless, not all high dividend-yield equities are blue-chip corporations. Although these companies' fundamentals range from average to good, the pricing and yield are enticing enough for investors to contemplate some exposure. Today, our attention will be on three high dividend-yielding equities that appear appealing at the moment. These companies not only provide a dividend yield of above 10% but are also drastically underpriced. In my opinion, these dividend stocks to buy will likely have 100% total returns over the following year. (read more) |

A California woman is traveling across the United States on a random mission: to cook all of the recipes that she finds on gravestones. Yes, you read that right - the woman is looking for the latest recipes to add to her collection by visiting graveyards. As it turns out, some people leave their favorite recipes on their gravestone after they have passed on. Rosie Grant, 33, first stumbled upon the odd trend when she was studying in New York and walked by a gravestone with a cookie recipe engraved on it. Since then, Grant has been on a mission to find recipes on gravestones across the country. And she doesn't just take a picture of the recipe, she says she makes whatever is on the gravestone and brings it back to the graveyard with her. Here's why. (read more) |
