CA upholds Meralco, SMC rate hike bid

The Court of Appeals (CA) has upheld the joint petitions of Meralco and two San Miguel Corp. units for rate hikes. The appellate court ruled that the Energy Regulatory Commission acted with "grave abuse of discretion" when it denied the petitions to adjust the rates in 2022 due to the surge in the cost of generating power. Meralco said it would negotiate emergency power supply agreements with suppliers should San Miguel decide to terminate their supply deal.
