Officials said that the driver of a truck that crashed into security barriers near the White House on Monday night was arrested on multiple charges, including threatening to kill or harm a president, vice president, or family member. Authorities seized a Nazi flag at the incident's scene, leaving no one injured. A law enforcement official told local media that the suspect made threatening statements about the White House at the scene but was quickly detained. The truck was found to contain no weapons or explosives, the official said, without providing further details about the incident. The white U-Haul box truck crashed into the barriers on the north side of Lafayette Square, just a few hundred feet from the White House, just before 10 p.m. ET. President Joe Biden's exact whereabouts at the time of the incident were unclear. (read more) |

In an abrupt about-face, the Biden administration informed Congress on Monday that it would not be giving a $200 million grant to an energy technology corporation with ties to China. Microvast, a Texas-based manufacturer of technology for electric vehicle batteries, will not receive the lucrative award which had been earmarked under the 2021 infrastructure package, DOE officials said in a call with congressional aides on Monday evening. Since last year's revelation of its Chinese ties, Republican lawmakers have been demanding that the agency revoke the funding. (read more) | |

It's no secret that Apple appears to be Warren Buffett's preferred stock at the moment. Currently, Berkshire Hathaway's portfolio includes 47% or so shares of the IT behemoth. Buffett started purchasing shares in 2016 and has never stopped. In the first quarter, he purchased approximately 20 million additional shares of Apple stock. The Oracle of Omaha has earned a well-deserved reputation as the most successful investor of our time by employing a buy-and-hold investing approach and placing large bets on stocks like Apple. Here are three other Warren Buffett stock picks that the investor is making big bets on by buying up large tranches of stock. In these cases, though, he also has a substantial ownership position in the company. (read more) |

More than a year after the owner's 5-year-old kid flushed the ring down the toilet, a public works crew in Southern California discovered it while doing sewage repair. John and Yana Glass claimed they were sleeping in their bed in their Chino Hills, California, home in March of 2022 when they heard the toilet flush. John Glass noted that his new stepson rarely flushed it. Later that day, the couple found out that the youngster had thrown Yana's engagement ring down the toilet. After taking apart the lavatory, the pair still couldn't locate the ring. Employees from Chino Hills Public Works said the ring was discovered 14 months later, more than 400 feet from the Glass' home, while they were performing sewage repair in the area. (read more) |
