Hi Edward, Here are the most important news that you need to know. The country is allotting its entire sugar production for the current crop year for local consumption to help alleviate the tight supply and stabilize prices in the market. President Marcos signed an executive order imposing a one-year moratorium on the annual amortization and interest payments of agrarian reform beneficiaries, as promised in his first State of the Nation Address. The President said the order aims “to help unburden as many as 654,000 agrarian reform beneficiaries of their debts” so they can focus on productivity. GIFT OF FREEDOM Inmates from New Bilibid Prison (NBP) and other detention centers around the country were gathered outside the NBP compound before they were released on Tuesday as President Marcos celebrated his birthday. Many of them had already served their sentences. —RICHARD A. REYES The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) will look into the red and yellow alerts issued by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) on Monday after several power plants in the Luzon grid shut down or operated at reduced capacity. The NGCP issued the yellow alert in the morning that was later raised to red alert in anticipation of demand outstripping generating capacity. No less than one of the biggest business groups in the country is saying that kidnapping is rampant again, threatening 'not only the safety of our citizens but also normal business activities.' Sadly, the PNP’s default action again was to dismiss and deny, rather than to do everything necessary to help resolve the cases and prevent more from happening. |
