- Friday, Massachusetts moved 50 migrants from Martha's Vineyard to a military base on Cape Cod, where there's access to food, shelter, and services. [Washington Post / Dan Rosenzweig-Ziff and Maria Sacchetti]
- Florida's Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis flew the migrants from Texas to Martha's Vineyard in chartered planes on Wednesday as a way to attack the Biden administration's immigration policies. [Guardian / Richard Luscombe]
- Most of the migrants are asylum seekers who crossed the US-Mexico border to escape violence and economic strife in Central and South America; after being processed by immigration authorities, such migrants are typically released in the US until their asylum claims are heard. Italy and Pakistan floods |
