BREAKING NEWS: 36 states, D.C. sue Google for alleged antitrust violations in its Android app store

A group of 36 states and Washington D.C. sued Google on Wednesday, alleging that the company's control over its Android app store violates antitrust law — opening a new front in regulators' attempts to rein in the search giant.

The lawsuit filed in California federal court is the third by state attorneys general to target the company for alleged antitrust violations. It also comes nine months after the Justice Department joined 14 AGs in an antitrust suit focused on the company's use of its Android contracts with Apple, Mozilla and smartphone manufacturers to leverage its control over the search market into mobile.
