TOP NEWS What we know about the death of Tyre Nichols Scott Olson/Getty Images Friday, Memphis police will release video of the January 7 traffic stop that led to the vicious beating and eventual death of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old Black man. [Associated Press / Adrian Sainz] Nichols's family has seen the footage, which is expected to show the officers chasing Nichols after he fled and beating him for three minutes. Nichols died three days later from his injuries. [CNN / Travis Caldwell] The five officers involved, all of whom are Black, were arrested and charged with second-degree murder and other crimes including aggravated assault. [Washington Post] The US Department of Justice opened an investigation to determine if the officers violated Nichols's civil rights. Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis promised to fully cooperate.
