Well, Good Morning!
Let's take a look at what the day has in store for us.
So, let's dig in, shall we?
Here's What You Need To Know... Force expert: Rittenhouse decisions to shoot were reasonable Kyle Rittenhouse was 17 years old when he made the short trip from his home in Antioch, Illinois, to Kenosha on the night of Aug. 25, 2020, in response to a call from a Kenosha militia to help protect businesses from protesters. The city was in the throes of several nights of chaotic demonstrations sparked by a white police officer's decision to shoot Jacob Blake, a Black man, during a domestic disturbance. The shooting left Blake paralyzed from the waist down.
Rittenhouse would end up shooting three people during the protest. He was widely condemned by activists who claimed his use of force was unjustified and should result in prosecution. Now, however, an expert is telling a different story.
How does William Shatner feel about being launched into space next week? Captain Kirk is headed to space for the first time next week. Wait, you may be thinking, didn't he already do that? Like, back in the 60s… on Star Trek?! Sure, but now, the 90-year-old actor behind the hit television show will also know what it feels like outside of Earth's atmosphere as he takes off in a Blue Origin rocket. He will zoom past the Kármán Line alongside a company executive, and two people who paid a hefty sum to join them.
Shatner shared how he felt about the upcoming trip. He said, "I've heard about space for a long time now. I'm taking the opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle... I'm going to see the vastness of space and the extraordinary miracle of our Earth and how fragile it is compared to the forces at work in the universe —that's really what I'm looking for."
Key things the Facebook whistleblower told a Senate panel The Facebook whistleblower who released tens of thousands of pages of internal research and documents indicating the company was aware of various problems caused by its apps, including Instagram's potential "toxic" effect on teen girls, called on Congress to take action against the social media platform.
Frances Haugen, a 37-year-old former Facebook product manager who worked on civic integrity issues at the company, faced questions from a Commerce subcommittee about what Facebook-owned Instagram knew about its effects on young users, among other issues.
Following the hearing, Facebook issued a statement attempting to discredit Haugen. "Today, a Senate Commerce subcommittee held a hearing with a former product manager at Facebook who worked for the company for less than two years, had no direct reports, never attended a decision-point meeting with C-level executives — and testified more than six times to not working on the subject matter in question," the statement, tweeted by spokesperson Andy Stone, read.
It's important to note that despite that, Haugen has an impressive record that seems to credit her claims. Haugen has a degree in computer engineering and a master's degree in business from Harvard. Prior to being recruited by Facebook, she worked for 15 years at tech companies including Google, Pinterest, and Yelp. She claims that she is not trying to break up the company or destroy it — just call to attention the need for immediate improvement.
