UP drafting guidelines on 'responsible' AI use


The University of the Philippines (UP) has released a draft set of guiding principles on the "responsible use" of artificial intelligence (AI), in the first such move by the national university to deal with the expansion of various applications like the popular ChatGPT.

Why the inaction vs laptop suppliers? 


The Alliance of Concerned Teachers called out the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM) for its failure to blacklist the suppliers of the overpriced and outdated laptops it bought for the Department of Education in 2021. For the group, this inaction is tantamount to "dereliction of (PS-DBM's) duty to safeguard public funds from malversation."

Activists hit AMLC for freezing assets


BAGUIO CITY—The Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) denounced the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) for freezing its accounts on July 12, apparently in relation to a government resolution that classified four of its members as terrorists. "CPA does not finance terrorists," said CPA secretary general Sarah Dekdeken on Thursday, stressing that their funds go to community services and relief operations.

Challenges ahead for ICC ruling


While the ICC ruling has shut the door on further appeals from the government, this unresolved issue could further weaken the already tenuous standing of the court in so far as it lacks the police power to effect arrest without the cooperation of the state. At the very least, however, the warrants may be served to erring personalities named by the court should they visit countries that are state parties to the ICC.
