Explore MVPs Webpage Now Available on Quality Payment Program Website

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has developed a new webpage on the Quality Payment Program website to support clinicians as they explore and review the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Value Pathways (MVPs). The Explore MVPs webpage is now available and includes the 7 MVPs currently finalized as an option for meeting MIPS reporting requirements beginning in performance year 2023.

The MVP framework aims to align and connect measures and activities across the quality, cost, and improvement activities performance categories of MIPS for different specialties, clinical conditions, or episodes of care. MVPs incorporate a foundational layer that includes Promoting Interoperability measures and population health administrative claims-based quality measures. MVPs offer reduced reporting requirements, allowing MVP participants to report on a smaller, more cohesive subset of measures and activities (within the measures and activities available for traditional MIPS) that are relevant and meaningful to how a clinician practices.

The Explore MVPs webpage will help clinicians and practice staff get familiar with the MVPs available for reporting beginning in performance year 2023. It identifies potential clinician types who may want to consider reporting through one of these MVPs. Each MVP on the Explore MVPs webpage also includes a toolkit to help you understand the reporting requirements specific to each MVP, as well as the measures and improvement activities available within each MVP.

Through future rulemaking, CMS will continue to expand MVPs to include more specialties and subspecialties that participate in MIPS. For performance year 2023 (and beyond) clinicians will continue to have the option to report through traditional MIPS.
