One Strange Way I Find Investments
Author: Corey Snyder, Publisher

"A true story? I couldn't swear to every detail but it's certainly true that it is a story."
- Ed Tom Bell, No Country For Old Men (2007)

About a month ago, I spent a week in Baltimore at a private equity and capital raising event...

They're always different.

I've been to ones where the event is geared towards connecting with the movers of a specific industry and others where the networking is wide open.

Still, the way it generally works is everyone arrives the evening before things kick off and there's a sort of casual "warm-up" over dinner and drinks…

The next day is more like speed dating, which is a good time and breaks up the awkwardness and
"approach anxiety."

(The cigar in my pocket was hand-rolled and given to me by one of the gentlemen from the Bahamas. Remind me to smoke it.)
But you run into folks you haven't seen for a while and have the chance to meet others in the investing world…

Startups… public companies… venture capitalists… investment bankers…

And many of the companies you meet have some wild stories to tell.

(I'll be introducing you to some of them soon.)

Now, when I'm investing — not trading I have to hear the story before I even think about ponying up some dough…

"Why is that?"

For one, the story is my favorite part about investing.

But it also tells me more about the company than the balance sheet ever could
(not saying I don't check).

Think about it…

When you watch a documentary on Microsoft, do they ever skip over the days of Bill Gates and Paul Allen in their Albuquerque, New Mexico garage?

Did the film The Social Network gloss over the humble beginnings where code was written on a dorm room window at Harvard University?

Do biographies of Jeff Bezos brush past Amazon's initial five employees selling nothing but books, also out of a garage?

Of course not.

It's a ridiculous juxtaposition when looking at where they are now…

For example, a good friend of mine sent a picture of a mutual acquaintance who was in Hawaii hanging out with some friends, one of which was none other than Jeff Bezos.

And this was right before he boarded a flight into suborbital space through his company Blue Orchid...

From packing books in a garage to partying in Hawaii and flying into space…

Are these not the stories we want to hear?

But the reason for my interest is not necessarily because I like a good story — it's because of what it says about management…

If you know the Amazon story, you're likely not that surprised by Bezos's efforts with Blue Orchid.

This is something that I
scour for when introducing a company to Trickshot members, despite being a more technical analysis-driven service.

I know from my own experience that my best trades come from a combination of the two...

When there's a story that can gather attention, it builds suspense.

That alone can drive a trade.

But my investments lean heavily to the storied side of things…

Now, as I mentioned earlier, it's a starting point before I get to the fundamentals.

I'm not buying stock in a company just because how they got started sounds radical.

That's what meme coins are for.

The truth is that plenty of great stories are only great on paper… because the fundamentals are better reserved for the back of a used napkin.

But what I look for is as simple as this:

Does the story reflect the "it" factor for the people behind the scenes?

More to the point, does it show that the executive team is both capable and willing dying to get the company above and beyond industry peers?

If so, start digging

You will find a hidden gem.

Keep moving,
P.S. In the next few weeks, the markets will see tidal waves form from some unsuspected names. My research has nailed down a handful that I plan on sending to RapidFire members soon. Click this link here to learn how to grab them with a 30-day trial.

FINAL PRINTS: The Major Indices Wrap-Up
MARKET WHISPERS: The Weekend Scoop

  • Advice From Exile: "Clone of Dog Money" - America's favorite patriot and/or traitor Edward Snowden is blowing the whistle again, but this time on the latest meme-coin, Shiba Inu (SHIB). Snowden tweeted on Saturday that investors should avoid "exchanging your hard-earned savings for some new dog money." The tweet comes at a time when Shiba Inu has surpassed Dogecoin (DOGE) in total market value and is now being advertised in New York City's Times Square. Also, AMC Entertainment (AMC) is considering taking Shiba Inu as payment for movie tickets.

  • Special Delivery... At Least For Amazon - Shares of Rivian Automotive, Inc. are set to debut late this year or in early 2022 under ticker symbol "RIVN" and Amazon (AMZN) just revealed that it's poised to benefit. On Friday, the ecommerce giant revealed in a filing that it owns far more equity in Rivian than many speculated as the filing showed a 20% stake in the EV maker. The two companies have had a relationship since 2019 when the Rivian agreed to manufacture 100,000 delivery vans for Amazon by 2025. How many have been delivered so far? Less than one.

  • Let's Make a Steel - While traders have been busy buying up shares of former President Donald Trump's SPAC sponsor, old steel and aluminum tariffs of his are being removed for the European Union. Metals produced in the EU were previously subject to the tariffs, but will now be exported to the US duty-free up to 3.3 million tons, according to Reuters. The deal struck is said to benefit both steel and aluminum-based businesses as well as reduce the carbon emissions associated with Chinese exports. This should help bring down the price of whiskey.
