World Cup Daily: Matchday 24 - Canada and France Kick Off Round of 16

Saturday brings a drop down to just two matches per day at the World Cup.

Egypt and Colombia booked their places in the next round on Friday night, as did Argentina, although the reigning champion was made to work incredibly hard against a spirited Cabo Verde side that contributed to one of the greatest games in World Cup history. Lionel Messi and Argentina nearly suffered what would have been the biggest surprise of all time, but ultimately managed to grind out a 3–2 win to keep the dream of going back-to-back alive. We now turn our attention to Saturday’s action and the start of the round of 16, which brings a drop down to two matches per day. Canada vs. Morocco kicks things off, before Kylian Mbappé’s France is back in action against Paraguay. Mbappé sits just one goal behind Messi in pursuit of the Golden Boot. If he finds the back of the net tonight, he will join some famous names on the leaderboard for the most goals in a single World Cup tournament.
