| | | | | | DIVINE INSPIRATION | | Hey all, Mark here. Here's what we have in store for this week... | | | | | WHAT I'M WRITING ABOUT | | Crisis has a way of making things very clear. When the pressure is real, when the noise drops, when the stakes rise, you do not get to stop and invent your character in the moment. You act from what is already there. You respond from the code you have built, or from the absence of one. That is why ethos matters. Ethos is not image. It is not personality. It is not the version of yourself you perform when conditions are easy and people are watching. It is your internal operating standard. It is the line you hold because you decided that is who you are. In this episode, I go deeper into the Sheepdog Strong framework by focusing on what sits underneath courage, discipline, resilience, and decisive action. Before any of those qualities can be trusted, they need an operating system. They need ethos. Without ethos, courage can become recklessness. Discipline becomes empty grinding. Skill becomes dangerous. Resilience becomes self-focused stubbornness. But with ethos, everything sharpens. Courage becomes principled. Discipline becomes purposeful. Skill becomes protective. Recovery becomes service-driven. This matters even more in a VUCA world. When volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity strip away the old playbook, external reference points stop helping. In those moments, your stability has to come from within. Your ethos becomes the compass. That is why this work cannot be outsourced. You cannot borrow someone else’s code. You have to build your own through stillness, honesty, reflection, and pressure-tested action. The goal is not to sound impressive. The goal is to become trustworthy when it matters most. Hooyah! |
| | NEW EPISODE - THE MARK DIVINE SHOW | | The Mark Divine Show Sheepdog Strong: Build Your Ethos Before the Crisis Hits Episode #556 In this episode of The Mark Divine Show, I break down why ethos is the foundation of Sheepdog Strong leadership and why you must build your code before the crisis ever arrives. Podcast Highlights In this episode of The Mark Divine Show, I explain why skills, toughness, and capability are not enough on their own. What matters most under pressure is the code beneath them, the ethos that governs how and why you act. You’ll learn: - Why pressure reveals character instead of creating it
- What ethos really is and why most people have never built it deliberately
- How ethos anchors decisiveness when chaos removes time for reflection
- Why skill without character can become dangerous
- How wolves and sheepdogs differ not in capability, but in purpose
- Five powerful questions to help you begin articulating your own ethos
- How ethos becomes a leader’s stability system in an AI-driven VUCA world
This episode is about building the inner architecture that makes strength trustworthy. Because when the crisis hits, you will not act from aspiration. You will act from identity. --> Watch episode #556 of The Mark Divine Show | | | | | INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE | | “ In that moment, you don’t get to think about who you want to be. You’ve got to act from who you already are.” - Mark Divine | | | | | PRACTICE OR HABIT TO TRY | | Set aside 30 uninterrupted minutes this week with a journal. Sit with these five questions: - What do I believe about my role in this world?
- Who am I responsible to protect?
- What is one thing I will not compromise?
- What would I want said about me at my memorial?
- Is the way I am living right now consistent with those answers?
Then distill what you wrote into a short personal code. Not polished. Not performative. Just true. Reflection: Are you building your life on skills alone, or on a code that can hold under pressure? And if the crisis came today, what operating system would it reveal? Your ethos is not motivational language. It is lived truth. | 1.
