Stocks Soar to Kick Off New Trading Week

For the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ), we need to break the $444 level, and then $447 to expect a real move higher to follow.  When we get the opening pop on days like this, I like to find the weakest stocks and ride the gap back down. Then after the first hour or so of trading, you want to find the strongest stocks and ride the strength in the market.  The reason I don’t trade the first half-hour is because there’s a lot of crappy action that often reverses.   So when the market opens super strong in a crappy market, you want to find the weakest stocks. If the market is opening down big, you want to find the strongest stocks.  We don’t have much in the way of economic reports but the Federal Open Market Committee meeting begins Tuesday and we’ll find out the interest rate decision at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, followed by comments from Chair Jerome Powell at 2:30 p.m. ET. We won’t get a rate cut, of course, but we may glean some info on where the Fed stands at this point on future cuts.
