A jury in Portland has found a self-published romance author guilty of fatally shooting her husband four years ago. She once penned an essay titled "How to Murder Your Husband." After deliberating for two days, a jury of seven women and five men found Nancy Crampton Brophy guilty of second-degree murder in the death of chef Daniel Brophy. According to prosecutors, Crampton Brophy was allegedly motivated by money troubles and a life insurance policy. One of Crampton Brophy's attorneys, Lisa Maxfield, said the defense team intends to appeal. (read more) |

Chuck Schumer spent a good portion of his time yesterday berating Republicans for "doing nothing" about gun violence in schools. He spent the rest of it blocking a vote on a bipartisan measure that would actually do something by codifying the Federal Clearing House on School Safety into law. "GOP Sen. Johnson just tried for a bill that could see more guns in schools—I blocked it," Schumer bragged to his followers on Twitter. "The truth: There were officers at the school in Texas. The shooter got past them. We need real solutions." Maybe his panties were in a wad because he had to kill a vote on gun control because (despite having a majority in the Senate) they didn't have enough votes to pass it. Or maybe he was just too busy standing on his soapbox to actually read the bill and see what was inside. Because it didn't actually add more guns in schools. Here's what it would have done to prevent future school shootings. (read more) |

After invoking the Defense Production Act (DPA) last week in an attempt to alleviate the national shortage, Biden administration press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confessed to reporters on Sunday that the government had no clue when parents may expect to see infant formula on store shelves. When asked when Biden expected to bring things under control, Jean-Pierre remarked, "I don't have a timeline for you yet." Jean-Pierre's answer comes as a countrywide infant formula shortage has already resulted in the hospitalization of many babies. It's clear that this administration is struggling to run the country as things continue to get worse for hardworking Americans. (read more) |

As we wrap up the trading week and head into the Memorial Day weekend, stocks are trying to make sure they do it on a high note. Here are the five biggest stories that are set to move the market today. - U.S. stock futures are up in pre-market trading. All 3 of the major indexes are working to beat a losing streak. The DJIA has had 8 losing weeks in a row, while the Nasdaq and S&P have had 7 consecutive weeks of losses.
- Nvidia and Snowflake shares are falling. Both companies offered poorer-than-expected guidance, and the market isn't loving it. Nvidia fell by about 4% in pre-market trading while Snowflake fell by more than 14%.
- Macy's celebrates a nice retail win. While others were lowering investor and analyst expectations, Macy's raised theirs. They join Nordstrom and Williams-Sonoma in the category of retail winners and shares were boosted by 1.5% in pre-market trading.
What are the other two big stories that are sure to move the market today? (read more) | |

Quite the interesting house just hit the market in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The home is a rare landmark in the area that has only had 4 owners since it was built in 1920. It's so popular because of its cartoon-like appearance that has earned it several nicknames such as the gingerbread house, the Hansel and Gretel house, and the blue jay house. But the house is most commonly known as the "Smurf House" because of the home's appearance and white and blue colors. The popular house has a thick blue roof with rounded edges that gives it a cartoonish and whimsical look. You won't believe the asking price for the home, though. And if it looks like that on the outside, what does it look like on the inside? (read more) |

Staying hydrated is important for your health because it helps with healthy heart function and skin elasticity and generally just makes you feel happier and more productive. Being dehydrated can lead to mental fog, overeating and put you at a higher risk for having a stroke. Some easy ways to stay hydrated include sipping on water throughout the day or snacking on hydrating foods such as watermelon, tomatoes, and beans. Many raw fruits and veggies have a high-water content. However, it is possible to over-do it when it comes to chugging water. Overhydration can result in a dangerous condition called hyponatremia. This doesn't mean you should avoid water, however a 2015 study found that some other drinks such as milk, tea and orange juice were slightly more hydrating. It's important to try a variety of hydration sources, especially if you'll be exercising at a high rate of intensity. (read more) |
