Technical Assistance Webinar: NIH Health Care Systems Research Collaboratory (UG3/UH3, Clinical Trials Optional) RFA-AT-22-001 April 5, 2022, 2 to 3 p.m. ET; Virtual
Get details about the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Health Care Systems Research Collaboratory's current funding opportunity for pragmatic and implementation trials of embedded interventions (UG3/UH3, Clinical Trials Optional) at this technical assistance webinar. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions during the latter portion of the webinar. NIH Pain Consortium Webinar Series on Grant Mechanisms for Pain Research April Topic: CTSA and Patient Engagement Studios April 14, 2022, 3 to 4:30 p.m. ET; Virtual
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Pain Consortium is holding a series of webinars on NIH funding opportunities and other resources for pain research. The next webinar will focus on the Clinical and Translational Science Awards program (CTSA) and resources for innovation in trial design and recruitment. This session will go into detail about the CTSA program, the Trial Innovation Network and the Recruitment Innovation Center, which are supported by the National Center for Advancing Translational Science (NCATS). There is no cost for these webinars, but attendees must register in advance. Visit the website for the webinar series to register for this event and view videos of past webinars. Can a Controversial Tree Help End the Opioid Crisis? April 25, 1 to 2 p.m. ET; Virtual NCCIH Integrative Medicine Lecture Series In this free virtual lecture, Dr. Christopher R. McCurdy of the University of Florida College of Pharmacy will discuss the growing scientific knowledge of kratom, a drug derived from a tree in the coffee family that grows in Southeast Asia. Kratom has been found to have unique pharmacologic actions, e.g., stimulant actions like those of the coca plant plus depressant ones like those of opium. Dr. McCurdy will explain the traditional medicinal use of kratom, current pharmacologic studies on the drug, and the results of his team's behavioral studies in rodent models. Dr. McCurdy's talk will be streamed live and archived at NIH VideoCast and Facebook. Registration is not required. Precision Probiotic Therapies—Challenges and Opportunities April 26 and Wednesday, April 27, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET; Virtual
Differences in individuals' responses to probiotics have complicated the assessment of their health effects. Innovative research approaches are needed to understand the contributions and interactions of various biological and behavioral factors that may contribute to inconsistent outcomes and to advance methods for their assessment. The goals of this workshop are to (1) identify gaps in our current understanding of the biology of the gut microbiota and of probiotics and (2) identify research questions and methodological challenges posed by these gaps. Registration is required for this 2-day virtual workshop.
