Garland has undertaken many initiatives to try to reduce violence, but he noted that there was still more to be done as 2021 came to a close. His strategy, on the other hand, is all over the place, with many accusing him of focusing on the wrong things in order to combat crime. Conservatives chastised Garland for going too far in his response to incidents at numerous school board meetings across the country. This sparked a backlash from some who believed federal intervention was unnecessary and that it risked silencing critical speech directed at school boards.   No matter which way you slice it, Garland is in over his head as attorney general.
