30 November 2021
Seoul, South Korea – Nokia today announced that Shinsegae I&C, one of the largest retail tech companies in South Korea, will modernize its existing MPLS-Virtual Private Network (VPN) transport network with Nokia's IP/MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) solution for greater reliability, improved operational efficiency and enhanced network security. As part of the deal, Nokia has upgraded Shinsegae I&C's network, enabling it to offer improved services to its customers from November 2021 onwards.
Shinsegae I&C will upgrade the existing leased line infrastructure to a new IP-MPLS network, connecting 150 store branches across the country to its data center in Kimpo. Nokia's field-proven solution will help Shinsegae I&C provide more reliability, more bandwidth and superior services to its users.
Jay Jung, Vice President of Sales Division, Shinsegae I&C, said: "The modernization of the existing MPLS-VPN network reinforces our commitment to provide a best-in-class experience to our users. We are pleased to partner with global technology leader Nokia for this initiative, and look forward to ensuring a more secure and stronger network performance."
Josh Lee, Head of Enterprise for Korea at Nokia, said: "We are delighted to work with Shinsegae I&C for the modernization of its MPLS network. Nokia's IP/MPLS technology will simplify our customer's network operations, leading to greater efficiency across all sites in the country. With the enhanced VPN, Shinsegae I&C's users will also be able to experience improved branch connectivity with robust network security."
Nokia was awarded the contract after its solution demonstrated high performance, lower power consumption and optimal network stability and flexibility during the testing phase. The Nokia solution includes Nokia 7220 Interconnect Router for data center fabrics and Nuage Networks from Nokia's 7850 Network Services Gateway for SD-WAN. The Nokia 7220 Interconnect Router coupled with the Nuage Networks solution are used for Shinsegae I&C's backup SD-WAN network over the internet, ensuring improved redundancy, unparalleled scale and operational simplicity. The network will be able to carry high-quality voice and video traffic as well as ensure increased network performance for its retail operations.
