The big picture: D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser cited vaccines for declining hospitalizations and deaths. - When D.C.'s order lifts Monday, masks will still be required in schools, public transportation, nursing homes and D.C. government facilities where workers are directly working with the public.
Between the lines: D.C. is still in what the CDC calls "substantial transmission" of more than 50 cases per 100,000 people per day. - "We've moved away from this goal of getting to zero cases of SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 in our community," said health director LaQuandra Nesbitt.
