  • CNN anchor Chris Cuomo found himself in hot water Thursday after reports emerged that he'd consulted in strategy sessions with staffers for his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has been accused of sexual harassment by multiple women he interacted with in and around the New York political arena. [NBC News / Adam Reiss and Doha Madani]
  • Among the people included in the calls were the Cuomo brothers, the governor's lawyer, the communications team, and a number of outside advisers.   • In February, Andrew Cuomo was accused of sexual and workplace harassment by seven women, including a number of former staffers. A ceasefire ends 11 days of conflict in Israel and Gaza
  • Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire that took effect on Friday morning, bringing an end to 11 days of war that resulted in the deaths of over 200 Palestinians in Gaza and widespread devastation throughout the Gaza Strip. [CNN / Amir Tal, Andrew Carey, and Angela Dewan]
  • Each side is claiming victory. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement boasting about "significant achievements" in operations in Gaza, "some of which are unprecedented." Shortly after the end of fighting, thousands of Palestinians gathered in the southern town of Khan Yunis, waving green flags and shouting in exultation. [AP / Josef Federman and Fares Akram]
  • The 11-day war marked the first armed confrontation between Israel and Hamas since 2014. The damage done in Gaza is difficult to fully quantify. As of Tuesday, Israeli airstrikes had at least partially destroyed 40 schools and four hospitals. The Gaza Strip's Covid-19 testing lab was also damaged by IDF attack. [BBC]
  • The international community helped facilitate the ceasefire. It was largely negotiated by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. President Joe Biden spent days internally pressuring Netanyahu to pursue peace. [Reuters]
  • "I believe the Palestinians and Israelis equally deserve to live safely and securely and are to enjoy equal measures of freedom, prosperity, and democracy," Biden said in a statement Thursday night at the White House. "My administration will continue our quiet relentless diplomacy toward that end. I believe we have a genuine opportunity to make progress and I'm committed to working for it."
