Stocks ended the day on new highs after a whipsaw session that saw indexes chart paths all over the place. All three indexes surged as the trading day approached the closing bell. Investors are gaining confidence in the recovery now that the latest stimulus checks are being distributed. But there are new concerns over the government's runaway deficit spending, with a renewed focus on the cost of federal borrowing. But only time will tell if the Fed's approach to fiscal policy did more harm than good.
We'll have to remain vigilant as we monitor the changing economic landscape. Many investors are rolling back into value equities that stand to benefit from the recovery.
